FAQs
Applicants for the IBEW Local 584 Apprenticeship program (JATC) must be at least 18 years of age, have a current driver's license, and have a high school diploma or GED certification. There is a $20.00 application fee. Applicants meeting these requirements are given a general aptitude test, then a personal interview with the JATC Apprenticeship Committee. Those accepted by this committee are set to begin their careers in the exciting, ever-expanding electrical industry.
There is an initial application fee of $20.00, to be paid at the time of applying for the program. For those selected, the Apprenticeship program charges no tuition fee. Students pay only for their classroom books.
How long does the program last?
The IBEW Local 584 Apprenticeship is a five year program. Students work on the jobsite during the day, and attend classes two nights per week. This allows the Apprentices to "earn as they learn", and combine "hands-on" job experience with knowledge acquired in the classroom. During these five years, students will be instructed in all phases of the electrical industry, and their pay scale will increase as they reach each tier of the program.
