Business Manager's Report It’s been a long time coming. It looks like Local 584 is going to have work again. In June there will be a shut-down at the Sunoco Refinery. Work will begin on a major project in the Mid America industrial complex between Pryor and Chouteau for OESCO. The project near Pryor will employ 100 Members by December 2007 and it will have between 150 and 200 on it for three years. An Oklahoma City shop has a job in our jurisdiction that should begin in June and will need about six of our Members. Two Casinos in the south end of our jurisdiction are looking to expand this summer and a signatory contractor has that work. Advanced C&E has some skid projects that should start soon. One of McCall Electric’s customers has had a banner year and is looking at a major expansion in the near future. We should have twice as many Members working in our jurisdiction at the end of the year as are currently working. It has been a long, dry spell and I thank the Members for their grit. We never gave in to requests for special wage freezes, benefit cuts or wage reductions. Mike Burton Business Manager I.B.E.W. Local 584

THE JATCThe JATC will be taking applications for two open teaching positions. We will need a new instructor for the third year class and we will need another instructor for the second first year class. Next year we will have a first year class that will start at the regular time in September then we will start a second class at the semester break in January. The second first class will go to through the summer to join up with the September class for their second year. The JATC will also be taking applicants every Monday beginning June 4, 2007. We also need retirees to volunteer for new Member evaluations. We are currently building an evaluation room that will have panels, disconnects, starters, motors, transformers, switches, lights and receptacles mounted on the wall. Applicants with adequate experience will be given a set of prints and will spend 4 hours piping and wiring as instructed. The retirees will oversee the evaluations. We have made a lot of mistakes in the past when we manned up for large projects and this time we want to make sure that when we send a new Member to a contractor there performance will meet expectations. |
